The Borman Family Treetop Walk and MidAmerican Energy Adventure Tower will officially open to the public at 10 a.m. on Saturday, September 19, bringing climbing, rollgliding, simulated caving, elevated woodland trails, and views to Council Bluffs’ Missouri riverfront.
Visitors can access the Borman Family Treetop Walk and MidAmerican Energy Adventure Tower from the Bob Kerrey Pedestrian Bridge on the Council Bluffs side of the Missouri River. Parking is available in the parking garage at River’s Edge Pavilion. To celebrate opening day, food trucks will be stationed near the base of the Bob Kerrey Pedestrian Bridge from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.
The opening marks another milestone in the evolution of River’s Edge, which has transformed the Council Bluffs riverfront over nearly two decades. The MidAmerican Energy Adventure Tower and Borman Family Treetop Walk are part of River’s Edge Phase Four, which also includes the recently completed Charles E. Lakin Foundation Pier. Southwest Iowa Nonprofit for Collective Impact (SINC) led fundraising and project management efforts for River’s Edge Phase Four. The Iowa West Foundation provided the lead gift of $16.5 million for the overall project, with gifts from MidAmerican Energy, Ty and Linda Borman, the Charles E. Lakin Foundation, and other community partners and donors helping bring the new amenities to life.
