The Pottawattamie County Secondary Roads Department recognized employees for their dedication and service during an employee recognition event held July 15 at the Roads Operation Center in Council Bluffs.
The event honored employees who celebrated work anniversaries during the first and second quarters of 2026. In total, 23 employees were recognized for a combined 328 years of service to Pottawattamie County. The department also recognized Todd Karns, who is retiring after nearly 27 years of service.
County Engineer Andy Wicks, along with West Foreman Craig Jensen, East Foreman Tom Schneckloth, Construction Foreman Kyle Arnold, ROC Foreman Shawn Bluml and Office Manager Shawna Hedegaard, presented the awards and thanked employees for their commitment to serving the county and its residents.
"Selfless civil service is at the core of what we do,” said Wicks. “The work this team does daily impacts every citizen of Pottawattamie County. I'm grateful for the dedication and consistency with which the team serves our residents. This employee appreciation event is just one small way to say thank you."
The Secondary Roads Department is responsible for maintaining more than 1,500 miles of county roads and hundreds of bridges, culverts and other transportation assets throughout Pottawattamie County. The knowledge and experience of long-serving employees play a vital role in keeping this infrastructure safe and reliable for the traveling public.
