Following a successful community blood drive in July, Pottawattamie County and the American Red Cross are once again inviting residents to roll up their sleeves and help save lives.
The next community blood drive will be held Wednesday, September 23, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. in the training room at the Pottawattamie County Public Health building, 515 5th Ave. in Council Bluffs.
More than 30 appointments remain available for the September drive. Community members who are eligible to donate are encouraged to schedule an appointment in advance. Walk-ins are also welcome as availability allows.
The upcoming drive comes as the American Red Cross reports the national blood supply remains vulnerable after recovering from critically low levels during a summer blood shortage. Donors of all blood types are needed to help ensure blood products remain available for patients who depend on them.
As an added thank you, donors who come to give between September 21 and October 18 will receive a $15 e-gift card to a merchant of their choice from the American Red Cross.
Pottawattamie County's first community blood drive on July 29 collected 32 units of blood, surpassing its goal of 24 units. Thirty percent of those who donated were first-time blood donors.
Appointments for the September 23 blood drive can be scheduled through the American Red Cross using sponsor code PottCounty.
